Capacitate has extensive experience in enabling social impact and recognises the lack of capacity in the sector and aims to contribute to client achievement of development outcomes through the introduction of consulting services, capacity building and considered use of technology. What sets Capacitate apart is its accountability, innovation, commitment to quality and ability to take on diverse assignments through its extensive network of expert partners.

Jason Bygate - Capacitate

Jason Bygate

Director & Social Development Specialist

Jason is a development specialist and social entrepreneur with over 15 years’ experience consulting in the development and business sectors. He has a diversity of knowledge spanning ICT, logistics, programme design, social enterprise and monitoring and evaluation.

Jason has worked across multiple sectors including healthcare, child services, youth development, sustainable livelihoods, food security, micro-finance, renewable energies, and ICT for development. These projects have included deployments in multiple countries including South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ghana, Namibia and Guatemala.

He is a founding member and director of Capacitate, founding member and director of MediBucks, and founding member and director of Microserve BCD.

Jason has a passion for innovation and aims to leverage his collective experiences to contribute to enabling sustainable social impact.


Shirley Hamlyn - Capacitate

Shirley Janse van Vuuren

Operation's & Project Manager

Shirley heads up the Social Engagement Portfolio and manages the operational side of the Social Enterprise and projects.

Shirley started off her career in the Children’s sector with 5 years of Early Childhood Development experience, with a special interest in the Montessori methodology and has been working in the Social Development Sector for 2 years.

Shirley has extensive experience in operations, human resources, public relations, research (including data collection), training, marketing & communication, event co-ordination and management, and project management.

Chris Hamlyn

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Specialist

Chris is a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) specialist with a special interest in the health sector. He has a Master’s degree in psychology specialising in Health Promotion and Communication. Chris has a range of experience in conducting research, data management, managing M&E systems as well as conducting and conceptualising interventions in the heath, wellness and psychosocial setting. Chris has also managed several digital data collection systems for large-scale HIV research projects and wellness exposures for corporate clients.

Chris’s skills include analysing and reporting on survey data, managing data collection processes from conceptualization though capture and cleaning and creating M&E systems for both government and CSO’s. Chris is a Social Intelligence portfolio manager.
